Rockbox target specific updates?
(1/1)
sadffffff:
so im curious, (especially now because of the build that caused the ipods to freeze at the main screen), is there a place where we are told information about how the build affects certain targets?
what i mean is, it would be handy if there were a place that we could go for the ipods (or whatever target) and then find out that the current build locks up on it, so we wouldnt go out and try it. also, im curious that since i installed rockbox a few months ago, will i need to update the boot loader for new rockbox builds? seems like i might need so since the rockbox.* file has been moved. or mabey not. but that kind of info would be nice to know too.
it would be nice to have that kind of information at our disposal, instead of finding out the hard way and then making forum posts about 'problems' that are common knowledge to devs. or maybe this is actually available somewhere and i just dont know where.
Llorean:
Most of the information is only common knowledge to devs because someone has come to these forums and mentioned it already.
And in most cases, there is no difference between the status of the iPod version and the iRiver version, etc. When a bug affects just one, it's usually gone or reverted within a day or two, and archived builds are available.
It seems like you're asking a developer to spend extra development time constantly updating a page as to what is or is not working as it may change frequently, which in the end is a lot of wasted time. You are running test software, if you don't want to risk bugs, don't update, it's fairly simple.
If you experience a bug, just search the forums and flyspray to see if it's been reported.
As well, being a wiki, users are absolutely free to maintain a "IpodCurrentWorkingCondition" page, which would then keep a developer from having to spend time constantly updating it.
As for the new bootloader, as long as your bootloader works with builds after the coprocessor patch, it's fine.

i, by no means, meant that a dev should take the time. a community updated wiki page like that would be nice, but would take some community commitment. but its fine by me either way, seems like its about impossible to brick an ipod from what ive read, so trial and error and forum reading is fine by me.
thanks for the info.
Llorean:
Rockbox cannot brick an iPod at all, really.
And the way Rockbox is structured, on the players where there is any rick of bricking, that risk happens during the bootloader install (usually because you're flashing the bootloader, so if power is lost during the flash the device can be bricked). Once you've installed a bootloader on those devices, trying out updated builds of Rockbox should be as safe as can be as long as you aren't reflashing the bootloader over and over for no apparent reason.
