Support and General Use > Hardware
do any currently available models have bass, loudness and bass boost?
Llorean:
Any non-Archos player Rockbox currently supports.
basslover:
Appreciate the quick clarification for someone who doesn't know the terms of art. :-)
One (I think) last thing: is there any listing which indicates which of the non-Archos players Rockbox currently supports, are still available in stores for sale?
Llorean:
What's available in stores depends a lot on where you live.
The two that would be best for you to look for, in my opinion, depending on your requirements from a player, are Toshiba Gigabeat F/X series, or the Cowon iAudio X5 or M5.
basslover:
Thanks again for the quick reply and reco.
I can't help asking one more thing:
When I bought my Archos Recorder 20, at the same time I bought a Creative Nomad Jukebox 3. I wound up using the Archos, not the Jukebox, because I liked Rockbox so much.
I did note that the sound quality from the Creative player was more musical, smooth, pleasant to listen to.
Do you or others notice such differences?
Besides the Toshiba and Cowon, would Creative or Apple have ones I could use? I believe Creative and Apple definitely have good sound card quality, although I could be wrong.
Many thanks in advance for any additional input!
Llorean:
I would say that for *my* purposes the Gigabeat sounds better than the iPod.
With Rockbox, the iPod has some significant problems (specifically with poor battery life, and choppy audio playback when you use the equalizer because the CPU can't keep up) so I very much would not suggest an iPod for your purposes.
I personally can't speak on the sound quality of the X5, as I've never heard it.
There is no Creative player currently supported by Rockbox. There is a group workin on the Zen Vison: M, but there is no guarantee it will turn out to be possible for them to complete the port, as there are always unexpected hurdles.
