Rockbox acting extremely funky on my H10 when Equalizer on
« on: March 25, 2007, 09:00:02 PM »
Hey guys, I am extremely new to Rockbox, and am so happy with the gapless playback it brought to my H10, but I've noticed a problem. It seems as soon as I enabled the Equalizer (using one of the presets) my unit started going nuts, not activating button presses until long after they were pressed, almost like the unit had slowdown problems.

Other than this I like it a lot and was wondering if there's any way to fix this? Thanks guys!

Use less filters on the EQ. It's widely discussed that Rockbox is slow on the H10 at the moment (all PortalPlayer targets really) and the EQ is CPU intensive.

I actually wasn't using any filters on the EQ, just one of the presets on the unit. Thanks though, I guess I just won't use EQ's at all. I love Rockbox but I really hope it gets faster soon!

The presets do use multiple EQ filters. If you weren't using any filters, the EQ wouldn't affect your music.

Actually, after reading the readme a little more careful, I want to make sure I got this right.

Is it entirely necessary to remove the device in Windows before unplugging it? Keep in mind I would never unplug it during a transfer. But when the transfer is done, can I just unplug it? Or do I really need to remove it from Windows?

Also, I am assuming there is no way to get the device to show up in XP when in Rockbox? I must turn the player off, and turn it on while holding O? That's the only way?

In XP, it is possible for a device to register itself in such a way that you don't have to unmount it.  I don't know if the H10 does this.  You can check in device manager though (its the "optimize for quick removal option").

It won't show up in Rockbox, since Rockbox doesn't have a USB driver (yet) for the H10.

Cool, thanks. Is all this stuff that's being worked on for the H10?

The reason I am asking this is because when I need to boot my H10 to the old firmware so that I can transfer files, you need to insert a pin into the reset button to get the Rockbox back. Kind of frustrating every time I transfer stuff (which is every day) to have to do that.

USB mode in Rockbox requires a fairly large amount of work. It requires an implementation of a full USB stack for device mode.

It's going to happen, but there's no guarantee it's going to happen anytime remotely soon.

Thanks, I swear on anything last question :)

I told the player to change folders when finishing a folder, but it doesn't. So if I browse to an mp3 folder, when that folder is done with, it doesn't move on, it repeats to the beginning of that folder. Is there any way to get it to move on to the next folder in the directory?

Do you have "repeat" on? You should probably disable it if you don't want it repeating.

You do not have to boot into the original firmware to connect your h10 to a computer, when rockbox turns off it completely turns off the device, eliminating the need to reset it, so when you want to connect your h10 just turn off the device, then hold 'o' and  press the power button at the same time untill emergancey connect shows up, and your good to go ;-)

Yes, but he's saying that he needs to reset it to get back into rockbox, which is true.

Thanks guys. I was all ready to return my H10 because I hated the original interface and non gapless playback, plus the no ability to mount it as a hard drive. iRiver should be donating to you guys.

I have the final problem here, and maybe it's me. When I shuffle, it only shuffles songs in the directory I am currently in, rather than everything on my player. I checked ALL the settings, don't see a way to fix this? I must be nuts?
