Track preferences
iceberg:
I'm a new RockBox user, just installed it to my iAudio X5 and it works great.
Something I have never ben able to find in any mp3 player that I think many users might like. I know they tried this with car cd players a while back and it didnt take off but I thik it just got to little publicity.
Per track preference files. The ability to set EQ and volume preferences for each track. Just save the .pref file with the same file name and a .pref extension or similar. If the file doesnt exist then the player uses the default pref or current settings.
Usualy you can just use the defaults but some songs you get from Ruckus or other online stores will have diff volume levels, in fact some CDs are this way though it's pretty rare now.
Then there are some people that listen to a wide variety of music and might beneft from diferent EQ settings based on the style. It might be going to far but being able to have a default preference for a genre would als be cool.
What do the rest f you think?
linuxstb:
Replaygain is supported in Rockbox and is a solution to the problem of different tracks being mastered at different volumes.
Didgeridoohan:
Sounds like something people who listen to many different kinds of music could find a use for... Maybe you should add an official feature request. (In the bottom part of the menu on your left.)
soap:
The feature request for config files attached to playlists very recently was closed as an unwanted feature. I have a strong feeling config files attached to individual tracks will meet the same fate.
The point of an EQ is not to shape the sound of different genres of music. The point of an EQ is to balance the sonic reproduction of your equipment. Because of that, the vast majority of people set and EQ once, and forget it.
Replaygain is already implemented in Rockbox and solves the other issue in the most elegant way possible.
ColdSphinx:
How about EQ settings based of the genre tag?
That would be much easyer to handle for the users than an config file vor every music file.
