Ipod Music Sorting
« on: March 25, 2007, 12:15:11 AM »
I've been looking and trying to reconfigure my Ipod Video 5g forever to where it sorts music JUST like it did before rockbox, with that, I see no problem with RB besides scrolling slowly.

Do you mean that you want to view your music like the apple firmware does?
try using the Database

Yeah, read it, but I didn't find anything that would transition and rearrange my music to what it would be on my Ipod.

What exactly do you mean, then, by "what it would be on my iPod". We really can't read your mind, and if database isn't right, tell us what exactly you're looking for.

I'm trying to get my rockbox to be arranged like it would on the regular ipod. Meaning it doesn't go AAAAAAABBBBBBBBCCCCCCCC. It would normally go by the FIRST Album's songs, in order of which the album was placed, then the second album and the songs in their order and so on.

For example:

System of a Down --> Hypnotize ; Mesmerize ; Toxicity

Hypnotize
B.Y.O.B
Violent Pornography
...
and so on

Mesmerize:
Soldier's Side
Lonely Day
...
so on

Toxicity
Toxicity
Aerials
Chop Suey
...so on

EDIT: Any reason why after scrolling through my songs after a while (I have 9,000) it gets really hard and slow to scroll?

Anything I can do to stop this?

I'm still having troubles understanding you.

Do you mean when you select "All tracks" you want them sorted by album still, or do you mean you want the list of albums to be in a specific order rather than alphabetical?

"All Tracks" to be sorted by Albums. I'm just used to it, don't mean to be a pest =P

So far I'm liking rockbox, I got it yesterday, I just have a few concerns:

1) The scrolling speed, delay, and lag it gets after a while, I have a lot of songs and albums and artists.

2) The "Recording" tab, is there any way to get rid of it? Every time I click it, it messes up my playing song, and won't let me listen to any songs until reboot.

3) The order of "List All Tracks", and how it isn't "Apple Like" to where it arranges it by Album before it goes to songs.

4) My old ipod games and videos on it. Is there any way to view these or play these? Am I missing something.

3. If you actually read the Database Wiki page linked above and in my sig, you would see that you could customise it to show what you want

1) Just deal with it, there are some older unsupported builds that have an accelerated scrolling feature, but they are about a month old now. To me this is not a make or break point with rockbox, as I view my music by folder structure like this music>genre>artist>album>songs. This way it doesnt get too cluttered, and I'm not scrolling for ages.

2) Just be careful about the recording tab, the only way to remove it that I'm aware of is to modify the source code so that it is not made into the main menu.

3)What Bascule said

4)Rockbox will not play ipod games. Rockbox can play some videos at the moment check mpegplayer , but it is in it's early stages (I have hope too).

Seriously, give rockbox a week or two and really get to know it by fiddling with all the settings available, using the ~ 90 different WPS styles, and maybe looking at an unsupported build or two. I Guarantee that you will love it like the rest of us. Hopefully you will realize that apples firmware will not let you set a theme, do custom eq's, has crappy playlist capabilities, organizes your files in a very strange way (I mean the actual file system), plus you do not need software to transfer files to rockbox, whereas you need itunes for the apple firmware.
Just what I think ;)

How old is Senab's build? It supports the accellerated scrolling feature and he's pretty good about patching it last I checked... if you want to use Rockbox on an iPod I recommend it (or another unsupported build) as they offer up stuff like the accel. scrolling, the "ignore leading the" sorting, etc.
