mpeg vids refuse to work
« on: March 24, 2007, 04:50:23 PM »
hi i uploaded some videos to my ipod (under rockbox of course) and they don't appear in the file viewer. I checked again to make sure that they were there on my computer and they were. So I have no idea what to do as the documentation merely says to open the video file with the mpegplayer plugin (I also checked the plugins list for "mpegplayer"). Any advice?

If you mean in the /.rockbox folder, then it may just be that your File View setting is still at the default 'Supported' in which case that folder is hidden, or that the file extension is incorrect.

Read the page again - I've just tried to clarify things in the introduction.

huzzah i finally got it to work! I'm so happy. However, I have one problem. The video is not centered. All I get is like one quarter of it that's off to the top left! This is kind of annoying, because I wish to see the entire video. Please do not post a link to the wiki page.

What build are you running, what settings was the video file encoded at, and what player do you have?

Wow I feel stupid I should have said that. I am running the iPod Nano build (not sure of the specifics) and I'm using mpegplayer. That's all I know. And now I try to watch movies and I hear sound but all I see is "buffering".

What build revision do you have? Go to System and check your version number.

Also, what settings are the file encoded at? You have to convert files to a specific format for them to work properly with Rockbox.

Ok I think I might have figured it out. After scouring the Wiki page for mpegplayer, it talks about encoding. I then did as it asked to download the WinFF program and installed it. It then told me to edit the presets. This confused me, and I have no idea what to do now.

Read number two of the WinFF section again.  I think you just download the xml file and copy it over the one that came with WinFF.  ;)

thax for the help Nate!, but you can't download the .xml file! All that happens when you click on it is it sends you to another page with code. That's incredibly helpful! What do I do with the code? Also, I tried merely skipping that step, but again nothing?
