Sansa-update removes Rockbox
chrisjs169:
Well, I was only aware of the link posted in IRC by linuxstb__ (davechapman.f2s.com/[..]). Had I known the link to the official link, I would have mentioned that link, instead of wasting time uploading a copy that I had downloaded a few days ago.
linuxstb:
Links/files posted in IRC are generally just developers sharing files with each other, or requesting users to test prior to being released via rockbox.org. They're not permanent and spreading them can only cause confusion.

Thanks for clearing that up, but like I said, had I known that there was a copy here on the Rockbox site, I would have linked to it vs another site
EDIT:
--- Quote from: "Below" ---Especially worth considering is the fact that files like that are on private webspace that isn't really expecting the kind of bandwidth hit having every Sansa user wanting to update downloading the file could cause.
--- End quote ---
I don't wanna make a new post just to mention this, nor to I want to start a fight, but I don't think I'd have a real problem with bandwidth, with that being a Dreamhost hosted site (2048 GB bandwidth) ;)
In the future, I'll make sure to check on the download.rockbox.org server for files :)
Llorean:
The main point is, "don't like to files mentioned in IRC unless they're at download.rockbox.org, as they're usually unofficial, and in testing, and if we really wanted them out in distribution we'd put them on the main server."
Especially worth considering is the fact that files like that are on private webspace that isn't really expecting the kind of bandwidth hit having every Sansa user wanting to update downloading the file could cause.
