ColdSphinx:
if you buyed music from iTunes with DRM you can use JHymn to remove the DRM.
it's free and released under the GNU license.

iTunes 6.0 Warning: Info and Help

lights0ut:
Practically all internet music services that sell (or rent as Llorean put it ;) ) music have some sort of DRM. The biggest problem with DRM besides freedom is the fact that there are not one or two types of DRM encryption, but it seems every store has a different type of encrpytion, which means in the end less compatiblilty among DAP's. Which is what apple etc. wants right? why should you be allowed to play a song you bought at apple on your zune? (or vice versa)

Another convert to the cause...

Maybe I'm just naive, but I'm continually astonished that there are still people who just do not know how restrictive the online music purchase arena is and what you sacrifice by buying into the iPod/Zune-style ecosystems :(

...especially on a forum for an open-source jukebox firmware replacement...

riksweeney:
You're certainly not naïve (see, I found the double dots!), I reckon the majority of people don't know. I buy the CD not only because I want something physical, but also so I can rip the tracks as Oggs.

Nate!:
I won't talk about copyright infringment here, but I too have pondered the effects of online music purchases.  It seems that unless you have the physical CD, you lose some audio quality especially if doing double conversions as proposed above.  So you have to chose your sacrifice.  You either deal with the restrictions on your Purchased music or endure the extra work to free it.  Or, pay a higher price for your music and somewhat less convenience.   :-\

It still baffles me that you have restrictions on music that you have purchased.
