rockbox.iriver moved location?
riksweeney:
Hi,
I haven't updated Rockbox on my iRiver for a while so I downloaded a current build today and unzipped it and noticed that the rockbox.iriver file was inside the .rockbox directory.
I deleted the rockbox.iriver in the root and placed the .rockbox directory in the root as usual and when I started up my iRiver it threw an error (as I expected it would). So I moved the rockbox.iriver up to the root and it's business as usual.
I suppose my question is, do I need to flash my player so that searches for the rockbox.iriver in the .rockbox directory or can I get away with just moving the file every time?
Thanks
Richard
Llorean:
You can move the file every time, but we'd hoped by now that everyone would be using the latest bootloader, as it's been available for a considerable amount of time and changed the behaviour to look in the .rockbox folder first, then outside it if the file wasn't present.
If you re-install the bootloader (take an original iriver firmware, fwpatcher it with the newest version, boot into the iRiver firmware, and choose to do a firmware update) the newest one will handle finding it in /.rockbox/
riksweeney:
Cool, thanks. I'll update it at some point!

I was unaware that a new bootloader was released. Where is this documented and does it list the changes that have been made? Also, he doesn't mention which iRiver he is using. Was a new bootloader released for all iRiver targets?
Llorean:
As far as I'm aware, only the H100 and H300 ever had a bootloader that didn't look in /.rockbox/, and the updated bootloader was released over a year ago. It's at the IriverBoot wiki page, where it's been for ages.
