pc no longer recognizes ipod, and vice versa
« on: March 19, 2007, 06:14:46 PM »
i installed rockbox on my ipod nano last night, and it's functioned fine since, except for one thing- when i plug it up to my pc via usb, the pc no longer recognizes the ipod automatically and when i go into disk mode, the device displays a check mark and 'ok to disconnect'. what am i doing wrong here?

Same problem here. I can use the ipod in disk mode, but not "normally". It continues to cycle between these two messages:

Mar 20 09:59:32 usb 1-3: new high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 17
Mar 20 09:59:37 usb 1-3: device not accepting address 17, error -71

Is there anything I am doing wrong?

While this message wasn't really old, bumping isn't wanted in this forums.

Tried unconnecting and reconnecting the device? Checked if there is a hub in between that might cause trouble?

ah, well then i apologize for that.

i've dis- and re-connected the device several times, still to no avail, and no hub. the ipod has also lost its ability to charge since i installed rockbox, since it doesn't seem to make any connection to the pc whatsoever.

Try putting the ipod in disk mode and then connecting it.

Disk mode is an entirely hardware based mode and has nothing to do with Rockbox. If you've put the iPod in disk mode, and then connected it, something other than Rockbox is causing your problem.

Haev you got a spare iPod cable lying around - we've seen a few of these posts over the months here, and it normally turns out that the cable being used is somewhat faulty.

Ipod connect to ipod cable; ipod cable connect to pc usb hub
When you dis & re connect, you mean disconnect ipod from the ipod cable or
disconnect the ipod cable from pc?
You should try both

Just me 2 cents

I had the same problem. Look here for some information about this error message. I had to remove protective cover from my IPod to solve the problem because the usb signal seemed to be interrupted.
