Rockbox and file tree browsing

(1/1)

olasparov:
My no 1 demand to an mp3 player is that one can use file tree browsing. Meaning it doesnt sort by tags, and the files and folders are just like I have created them, with subfolders and everything. And I am NOT just talking about if you can onload files through explorer instead of a certain software, it has to also look similar when USING the player! Is this possible with rockbox installed? I am considering an ipod 60 GB (I understand the 80 GB isnt supported by rockbox?).

How easy is it to install rockbox and make it work? I am very skeptic towards this as I know such things often can be hard to make work..and I am buying the ipod solely on that fact that I can use rockbox with this file tree browsing, otherwise I would not even consider ipod.

Llorean:
Yes, Rockbox supports filetree browsing.

And yes, it's quite easy to install, but it is recommended you spend a little time with the manual, and look things up in it when you have questions. There's been a lot of work on documenting things so that you can find how to work the things that may confuse you once you're in Rockbox.

Be aware that iPods have less battery life in Rockbox than the advertised amount right now.

ryran:
If you'd like to see exactly what Rockbox can look like on an ipod, you can download a simulator build. That's what I'd recommend.

psycho_maniac:
you cant download a simulator from that link. you can build it from that link you can download an actual simulator build from here. [LINK] although it onlyl gets updated about once every 2 months maybe.

X86:
the file tree is an amazing thing, is great to browse the files without troubles, that's is an advance between the original firmware and the rockbox firmware
