VLC issues
« on: March 18, 2007, 12:43:06 PM »
I find that when converting it is a lot easier to just the converter on VLC instead of using the command prompter. But when i do this (and when i say easier i mean i cant use the command prompter), i only get the audio, and not the video. I've tried using different formats and different videos and the result is the same. Any suggestions?

This seems to be a VLC isssue, not a rockbox one. I would try to contact them on their board if they have one.

An easy way to test that would be to play the output file on your PC.

In that case, this isn't a Rockbox issue at all.

Well not really.

I have VLC converting the files and i get an audio and a video. the PC says it is in mpg but rockbox doesnt play it. It says "buffering" for a few seconds and then cuts back to the menu.

Can you make the video file available for download somewhere so I can analyse it?

The problem with that file is that it's an "MPEG-2 Transport Stream", not an "MPEG-2 Program Stream".  The latter is what mpegplayer expects and requires.

One more question. I used the wizard to convert a file and i only wanted a partial (i was splitting it into three parts). I selected the extract partial stream option and set from 00:00:00 to 00:09:34 but it kept encoding past 9 minutes 34 seconds. and then when i tried to encode the second part (oo:09:34 to 00:17:45) it just started encoding the whole file again. any help?

Try my converter: http://forums.rockbox.org/index.php?topic=8150.0
File splitting works more or less.

File splitting works more or less.

Why do you need to split the files?   ;)

Because rebuffering doesn't work fully (yet). Or has it changed?

Yes, rebuffering is now implemented in mpegplayer.
