iHP-120 bricked

(1/1)

pzasso:
So I loaded Rockbox on my iRiver iHP-120 and everything was working fine.  I used it for a while after the installation was complete, then I powered it off and went to bed.  The next morning I could not get the unit to power on.  After messing with it for a long time trying the reset button etc., I decided to take it apart.  Once I disconnected the battery and plugged it back in, I was able to boot the unit, but when I powered it off, I had the same problem and had to disconnect the battery again to get it going.  I decided to remove Rockbox and flash back to the original firmware, just to see if the symptoms changed.  Something went wrong with flash, and  it never completed.  Now all I get is the iRiver logo when I plug in the battery, and I can't get past it.  Is there any procedure for recovering from a bad flash, or is it toast?

Thanks,

--Paul

LinusN:
There are ways to recover from a bad flash, but only with special equipment (a BDM emulator).

However, it soulds like the flash isn't your only problem. The initial problem with the power seems more serious.

pzasso:
Any idea where I can find parts for the iHP-120?  I am assuming I will need to replace the main circuit board to resolve the problem.

LinusN:
You can often find broken players on Ebay that you can strip for parts.
