Peak Level Meters
« on: March 17, 2007, 11:03:52 PM »
I've heard mention of this , i've tried a few wps like frostbox and others on my Gigabeat X30, so far I haven't seen this, where should I be looking? or haven't they been implemented on Gigabeat? I found some setting in the menu, but is there somewhere where this can be turned on? thanks.

Most people don't like the way they look, and don't include them in their WPS (or avoid them for performance reasons on some other targets).

Load the Rockbox_default WPS to see them.

Am I correct on this statement? Peak meters will never be horizontal? I remember reading somwhere on the wiki or on these forums., but cant find it now.

Ah yes, just tried the default wps, i see what you mean. Two horizontal lines isn't very exciting! I seem to recall the original Toshiba ones weren't too bad as they were multi colored and vertical. Too many other advantages with Rockbox to go back though!
Are there any other wps that have adopted this successfully (for Gigabeat)?

Using PMs to annoy devs about bugs/patches is not a good way to have the issue looked at.

I ASSume this is because WPSs are (at their core) line based, and a vertical element would be spanning multiple lines.
That being the case, non-horizontal peakmeters and progress bars would necessitate a complete reworking of how WPSs work.

dunno why, but I like having the peakmeters there.  shows me something is happening even if the sound isn't connected, and also is another piece of visual information that I enjoy interpreting.

It might also be a reflection of my player:  an iRiver H-1xx and so no album art/colors, etc.
