Data Abort playing m3u playlist after init of Datase
« on: March 17, 2007, 10:59:35 PM »
Gigabeat F60, revision 12823, official build no patches after first seeing with patched build of same revision.  Patches: Gigabeat_Rotate, Album Art, Scrolling Text Margins. Files: mp3, cbr 192.  Playlists created in Media Monkey v2.5.5.996 saved as .m3u

First, I can't reproduce anymore with an official build.  But I did see the data abort with an official build twice.

Decided to play around with the Database.

Initially with the patched unofficial build, I initialized the database, waited a few minutes, noticed the HD Activity had stopped,  and power cycled the player.  Went to main menu/playlists/playlist catalog and selected a playlist to which I was just listening.  It started playing the first song and a couple of minutes into it, I received a data abort.  Powered back on, after Rockbox loaded I pressed the A button to stop playback.  Looked at the playlist and noticed that all but the song previously played was (Err) out and wouldn't play.  I remembered that my playlists have the .m3u ext so I renamed one to .m3u8.  Same chain of events happend.  Played yet another different .m3u playlist and it played entirely.  (Maybe Incubus is just a lucky band?) Deleted the database *.tcd files in .rockbox dir.  Loaded both types of playlists and both played in their entirety.

Reloaded with an updated official build.  Initialized database.  Same as above happend.  After playing about three albums without actually selecting a playlist from the playlist catalog, went back in to try the playlists again, all of them play entirely.

Hopefully that was coherent enough for everyone.  Has anyone else experienced this?

Data Aborts include a memory address. If you're running an officially downloaded SVN Rockbox, and include the memory address of the data abort and SVN revision that it happened with, it makes it much, much easier to track down such a bug.

I was afraid of that.  The above post was from memory, and I didn't think to write the memory address down.  Like I said, I can't really reproduce it now.  If it happens again, I will be sure to make a note.  Thanks.

Well, the problem with bugs like this is that if you're the only person having them, you're the only person who can tell us where to look. :)

I updated my iPod video yesterday and I'm having almost the exact same problem. I initialized the database (as rockbox instructed me to do), rebooted (also as instructed) then when I pick any song, it loads the information (the ID3 info) but never plays, then gives me the 'Data abort'.

When was the last time you updated your bootloader ?

I've always downloaded from the 'current build' page and put the .rockbox folder on my ipod. Not sure if that has the bootloader or not.

The bootloader is the part in the manual described as installing the bootloader.

If you haven't redone that procedure recently, you might want to (installing and updating are the same process).

sweet. That fixed it.

I never knew you were supposed to update the bootloader. How often do you recommend I do it?

It's rare that you ever need to, and in fact you weren't supposed to need to this time (though the newer bootloader would've improved performance for those who had it.)

Hopefully you won't need to again. If you feel like checking, maybe look in on the file once a month or so and see if the date on it has changed.
