You can't, really. Broadcom would have to provide it, and they don't like to share. The main point was: It can't be done unless someone figures out how to talk with that specialized chip. Ipod Videos are likely to, for a long time, have the worst video experience in Rockbox.

You could probably start by improving a/v sync and adding a "seek" option. Pesonally, i like the way ipods can seek through video (step by step or by long durations determined by the scrollwheel). I also have a question:

Would the video run more smoothly if it were using a chip in the player, versus the portalplayer processor?

What chip would that be then?

Yes, but

a) Only the ipod video has one, not any of the other players.
b) There is absolutely zero documentation on it so we have no clue how to use it.

Well, I thought that the sansa had some type of .mp4 chip in it.

benosoft:

you might also want to try to optimize the player to "re-buffer" video, so that it plays the entire thing and not just as much as can fit onto the RAM.

Thanks for your replies, I'll try to see if I can figure out how to do those things!

Lots of people think so. Lots of people claim so.

We have never found any.

And that proves what? Many sites have made claims that are not true, or are different than they thought.

No it doesn't.  It says the Sansa uses the same CPU as the Ipod, which is true, but this means it has the same problem as the Ipod:  a CPU thats too slow to play most video formats.
