Data abort at 400013C8
« on: March 15, 2007, 08:24:49 AM »
During the last week or so, I have been getting a "Data abort at [number]" error when playing back audio, followed by a "Data abort at 400013C8" error a second or two after starting playback on an iPod Nano 1st. gen player.  Rockbox then freezes shut and I have to reset it.

Since this morning, this error has been consistent.  Before I go file a bug, I'd like to know if this is a known problem or not, or if it is caused by something other than Rockbox, such as hardware failure.  Any clues?

Make sure that you have the most recent bootloader.  When you start the ipod, you should see light text on a dark background.  If you do not, you should update by downloading and running the most recent version of ipodpatcher.

Thanks for the hint: I was running an extremely old bootloader (20060126-1829). I've updated, and will report back if it doesn't alleviate my problem.

As an aside: Is it intentional that the new bootloader only displays an Apple logo and no version info?

Yes. If there's an error, info should show up. Also, if the user wants to see info, pressing "Right" during the bootloader will show it.

But not updating the screen during the boot process makes it look a little nicer (more unified).

FWIW, if anyone is confident this particular data abort is caused by my combination of daily build+old bootloader, feel free to close http://www.rockbox.org/tracker/task/6832 which I filed for tracking purposes.

Updating the bootloader fixed this problem for me.  I was receiving the exact same error message before updating.

Thanks for this thread, it seems to have solved my problems too.

How do you know when enough changes have been made, so that a bootloader update is required?
