Obscured "greyscale" overlayed message boxes on iRiver H1xx players?
« on: March 15, 2007, 01:32:20 AM »
Are other users having difficulty in reading some of the overlayed seemingly greyscale message boxes on their iRiver H1xx players?

When upgrading to the latest firmware today, I got various I believe greyscale message boxes overlayed on my iRiver H140 player's screen--for example, as to compiling the database, and as to committing the database (I'm sure my recollection of the exact wording is incorrect).  It was extremely difficult to read the wording--I had to tilt the player at an acute angle, and it still was difficult to read.

Are others having this difficulty as well?  I assume it's just a result of the H1xx black (or blue) and white screen.  But I wonder it there is a way to accommodate this issue for the H1xx players.

Fortunately, these overlayed boxes are not a constant/common occurrence.  But it just kind of seems a shame not to be able to see the text easily/clearly.

Thanks--

If you're referring to the "Splash" dialogues, you may want to try adjusting your contrast. It sounds like yours may be set darker than is necessary.

In general, the contrast should be set as lightly as possible where the darkest color is still solild black, so that there's the most range between the two intermediate grays. (In my opinion).

Thanks.  Actually came back to note that this was a general situation with the splash dialogues (and not having to do with the latest firmware), and saw Llorean's comment.

Yep, that did it (and I feel a bit like a dolt for not having simply done that to begin with; I guess I've gotten too accustomed with my player--please feel free to delete this thread ...); moving from a contrast level of 28 (which really wasn't all that high to begin with, it seems to me) down just by 3 to 25 makes everything readable.

While I love my player, a higher quality screen would be nice; maybe iRiver will come out with that when it updates the H1xx series (right) ....

Thanks, and sorry for the bother--although maybe this will assist others as well.

Yup, no harm in keeping old threads around for the "Search" function to prove its worth. :) Believe me, I've done sillier things and asked some very stupid questions from time to time.
