F10 problems booting everything
(1/1)
rstanif:
Hi,
I recently sold an F10. It was brought back to me a couple of weeks later. It boots to the message: "no system files" (or similar words). The guy who bought the F10 said he had mistakenly deleted some files. Then he tried to restore them.
I've tried installing the original Toshiba files. The files are copied over to the device, but I don't get the initialization screen.
I've tried wiping off the files and installing Rockbox, but keep getting the message "no system files".
Part of the Toshiba directions require that the device be switched off using the button on the side. This button swiches on the device but it won't switch it off. I've never seen any posting concerning the switch not working to switch off the machine. Is it significant that the switch works for the initializing process?
Otherwise, the USB connection works OK. I can see all the files on the F10 through my computer.
I've seen information suggesting that the hard drive be disconnected and then connected. Would this be helpful in my case? What about formatting the drive?
Thanks for any help.

Do you have the Original Firmware folders on the device? Â Can a pc recognize the device as a USB harddrive? Â Do you still have the GBSYSTEM folder in the root of the player? Â In that folder should be two other folders: \FWIMG and \Fonts.
If you check this thread, you'll see what files 'HAVE' to be on the player in order for it to boot into Rockbox. Â http://forums.rockbox.org/index.php?topic=8927.0

Check the second post down on the above mentioned thread for installation instructions and possible Gigabeat Recovery steps.
Out of curiosity, why did you sell your F10? Â What did you get to replace it?

Hi,
Thanks for the listing of files. I'll check to see if I have them all installed. In some of the rockbox zipped downloads, I don't think all necessary files are included.
When connected with a USB cable, yes, I can see the F10 as a drive on my computer. I can move files with no problem onto the F10.
I sold the F10 because I disliked the fact that a special program was required to make MP3s usable. This was before I knew about Rockbox.
I bought a 4 gig ipod clone from Ebay for $50. No problems dragging and dropping with this device (unlike Ipods). I know there are some dubious deals with these clones, but I think I got a decent one. But it looks like I've re-inherited the Toshiba F10.
Thanks and I'll re-check the Rockbox files. I'm still concerned that the off button isn't working, though.

Hi,
Regarding the file list -- are all of these files created by Rockbox. I think that FWIMG01.DAT is, but what about the others?
Also, I cannot find the file, gigabeat.conf. I believe this is some kind of a text file referring to a LAN. Is this a necessary file to have?
Does switching to Rockport depend on having the original Toshiba files installed? Or can I wipe everything off the hard drive and install Rockbox?
Thanks,
Nate!:
Mod's, I think there is a cross post to this thread in the Toshiba Installation thread. May want to either move this one or merge the two.
I'll answer in the Install thread because that seems to deal with this discussion more accurately.
