STUPID! I shorted the battery terminals & iriver H320 no longer boots...
« on: March 14, 2007, 02:59:29 PM »
I froze my H320 during the first 10 minutes of a 5 hour flight by accidentally entering the eq screen and backing back out too fast. My reset button does not work (previous owner broke it right off the circuitboard). Luckily (so I thought), my chassis screws were still removed from when I did a HDD swap, so I opened it up to try to force a reset by shorting the solder points of the reset switch. Unfortunately I couldn't get a good "connection" so I had a brilliant idea of shorting the battery terminals instead. So I did, and as expected the player shut off (I figured the player would lose power for an instant when I shorted the battery). Only now it won't turn on. I have been too afraid to plug it into the wall for fear of frying something else. I am hoping that I only damaged the battery circuitry since it needed a new battery anyway.

I am awaiting a pro's opinion before continuing. I figure at a minimum I should remove the battery and then try the AC adapter.

Any thoughts you can share before I start feeding power back into it?

I think you could try to revive the battery by recharging it. Let it charge for about 10 minutes and then try to turn it on.

Should I be worried at all about the possibility of any damaged battery circuitry causing damage to the unit itself once I add external power to the equation? Nerrrrvous!

Worried? Possibly... Or you could purchase a new battery first, and try that one.
