Not able to connect to PC since rockbox is on the Sansa E270
« on: March 14, 2007, 01:01:34 PM »
Help!  :'(  :'(  :'(

I have installed rockbox on my sansa e270. Since I restarted the mp3 player rockbox runs. But I can't connect to the pc (windows xp) now! (I tried it on two computers.) There is always an error message: "USB-Gerät wurde nicht erkannt". In english it is about "usb device could not be detected".  ???  ???  ???

what can I do now?

thanks

regards,
tarant

In the http://download.rockbox.org/manual/rockbox-sansae200.pdf manual is written, that I can only delete the rockbox.e200 file to recover the old firmwire. Now I tried it to delete it with the file manager on the rockbox. At this moment it displays an error message after run up. "Loading Rockbox... Error! Can't load rockbox.e200."

This was really an expensive experiment with rockbox. Is there a possibilty to rescue my player? Or can I simply throw it away?

Rockbox does not support the USB port yet.  Assuming you followed the installation instructions, you should be able to boot up in the original firmware by holding |<< as you boot.  From there USB will work, so copy the backup of your original firmware which you made into the root directory of your Sansa.  When you disconnect, the Sansa will not be booting into Rockbox any more.

The section of the manual about uninstallation was not correct, so we will fix that.

When I hold the | (on/off) during boot, it only displays the error message more than once. Nothing else happens.

I thaught I made all steps correctly, incl. copy the decrypted file in the hidden /system dir.

When I try to connect (with windows) with the e200tool it displays the following lines:
Searching for device 0781:0720   ... not found
Searching for device 0570:0003   ... not found

Hmm... maybe I try that with linux once.

I see the original firmware loading. Then I see a dialog with "refresh database". After the bar of the dialog is filled the display freezes and it reboots.

I must say that I haven't the original firmware of the player. I took the european firmware from Dave Chapman (http://daniel.haxx.se/sansa/mi4.html)

maybe this firmware doesn't work with my e270.

I confess that I haven't understand it correctly.

But I was able to go to the recovery mode (for the first time). Then my windows xp machine shows a 16MB-FORMAT drive now. (!?)

I wasn't able to connect with e200tool yet. (win xp) Still not found a device.

What can (should) I do now?

Thanks!

I GOT IT BACK !!!  ;D

But the "SanDisk Sansa e200 (European) " from Dave Chapman crashes!

I took now the    1.02.15a !!

Cool!

Thanks a lot !!  ;D  :D

I will try rockbox again and use dualboot with this 1.02.15a firmware for the USB support.

Question: Is this recovery mode a feature of every sansa e200 or is it a feature of the bootloader that I have installed?

Ok, it was a little bit early.  :'(

Any firmware from http://daniel.haxx.se/sansa/mi4.html don't work properly. Some crashes by "refresh database" and other when I try to play a track. And they crash when I try to set the MSC mode.

I'm using the 1.01.11a from there and it is working fine. Did you verify the MD5 sum after downloading it?

No, I haven't. How can I do it?

One little thing: since i have installed 1.01.11a i have radio options. (!?) but in my player exists no radio. i hadn't that menu point before.

The US devices have a radio. If you have a European device, you do not have a radio and shouldn't be installing an American firmware.

To test the MD5 you'll need to find a tool that can do so for your operating system. Just use Google.

Ah, MD5 is nothing else than a hash code like SHA-1, etc ... sorry. I should have known.

Do you know how can I get a current firmware. The only european firmware from Daniel's website does not work. How can I get (fetch) one with the sansa firmware updater? I know somebody who has the same player (e270 european). Is it possible when he renews his firmware to save the file? How can that be done with the firmware updater software? Or can I easily backup the firmware from the friend's player somehow?

thanks!
