I suspect the backlight setting has reverted to it's short default value (2s? 5s?).
Try resetting settings and loading up a recent config file (or start from scratch if you haven't saved one ;) )

There's no need threatening with you switching back to "regular" (I'm guessing you mean original firmware?), do what ever you want.

Let me just say, in no way was I threatening.  I just love this firmware too much, and I would like to stay with it.

r12753-070313 is my rockbox version, however I don't know exactly where to see the bootloader version.  I went into the system menu and couldn't find anything, and I checked out the intro screen but it loads to fast for anything to catch my eye.

As to my problem, sometimes I can turn on rockbox and it will work semi-fine in scrolling (I can bear will scrolling, but it really doesnt work 100%) and other times it just doesnt work.  I can't scroll through artists and I can't scroll through menus.  Sometimes I turn on my player and just press play two times and keep it in shuffle because the hassle is so great.
It happens in the WPS too sometimes, I didn't realize it until you said but it is a pain to switch volumes sometimes too.

The backlight just keeps coming on during WPS screen.  I noticed because I got home and the battery was all the way gone ( I use it in my car for an hour tops per day).  I also usually play guitar and I play my ipod through speakers near me, I noticed that the screen would constantly turn off and on by itself.  The only way to stop it is to slap the hold switch into the on position.

I hope I gave enough info, ask for anymore.  If you need the bootloader info, could you just give me a rough idea where to find it?  I'll search in the mean time.  Thanks.

I have no idea about the scrollwheel issue.

However... the backlight issue sounds like a specific Rockbox feature / settings, which you may have mistakenly activated (I doubt it's a default).

Under root menu>general settings>display>lcd... you can enable "caption backlight", which means that the backlight will turn on (for a few seconds) when a new track is playing. Very useful feature, but you can turn it off as well.

There is also a setting to handle backlight differently when the hold-switch is on. Unless you want this feature, set it to "normal".

It's the main menu. There is no root menu.
