Charging chip for Archos Jukebox Recorder 20
« on: March 13, 2007, 02:19:32 PM »
Hello, I am thinking of replacing the damaged charging IC on my Archos, but I can't find the right chip, i.e. the MC34063A. I can find chips with names like it i.e. the MC34063AP, MC34063ADG, MC34063ABD etc. but not the exact one, and I can't really tell the difference. Should I be looking for a chip with a certain output, i.e. 6 volts?

Just make sure (by reading the data sheets) that the output voltage etc is the same, and that the package is 8-SOP.

Hi, thanks. I am actually having trouble finding this chip in 8-SOP, I even tried looking for 33063 type chips but had a similar problem. Does it have to be exactly this case format?

Well, it sure has to be the same format as the one in your Recorder, otherwise it won't fit.

What I meant was, is '8-SOP' the same as 'SOIC8' because there are plenty in that format.

Yes, as far as I know, SOIC is the same as SOP.
