M4A tags not updating
xlarge:
Ah, one more thing i come to think of, do you have anything listed in exported modifications?
/.rockbox/database_changelog.txt
It's an ascii file so you can use notepad to check it out.
That file should be read on initialization of database aswell.
Lear:
Maybe Tag&Rename stores the genre in a different way, so that Rockbox sees the old value, while Winamp sees the new one. If you could create a test file (preferably a small one), I'll take a look at it.
oldutch:
How can I create a small test file without infringing on any copyrights? Do you know of a different application to modify .M4A file tag information that I might try instead?
Lear:
You can always create a file with "nonsense" audio (like silence, a sine or whatever); the tagging is the important bit.

The new file won't even play...
Here are the steps I took.
I created a file in Audacity that contained a 30sec click track.
I exported that file to .mp3 format.
I then used the online utility at zamzar.com to convert the .mp3 to .m4a. (I don't know of another way to get my own .m4a file...)
I used Tag&Rename to create the new .m4a file tag information.
I played the file in Winamp and all worked well (file played and tag info was there).
I moved the file onto the 5g iPod and also removed all the .tcb and .cfg files from the iPod.
I booted rockbox and initialized the database. When it was done I rebooted.
The new file doesn't even show in the database. I used the file browser to play it and the display says:
No file!
(root)
(root)
0:00/0:00 [1:1]
?kBit (no id3)
The original file that I was working with would play and the screen also said (no id3) but when you went to "Show ID3 Info" the wrong genre would appear.
I tried to attach the file but it was too big, I'll re-create my steps and attach a smaller version in a bit...
