M4A tags not updating
oldutch:
I'm not sure if this is the right forum...
I have a few M4A files that I've used Tag&Rename to modify the file information, specifically, the genre. I've tried deleting all the database*.tcd files in the .rockbox folder within my Ipod 5g. I then tried booting rockbox, initializing the Database, waiting, rebooting rockbox but the old genre is still listed in the database. I tried opening the M4A file in winamp on my PC and winamp is reporting the new genre. After I confirmed the file is correct both in Tag&Rename and winamp, I tried blowing away the entire .rockbox structure and rockbox.ipod file, downloaded the latest release (3/13/07) and tried initializing the database again. Rockbox is still reporting the old genre. Where does rockbox look to get the M4A information? Is there something else I can try?
If this isn't the right forum, please let me know.
Thanks,
Andrew

Perhaps the files "deleted" were just moved to a trash/recycled-folder on your dap?
Rockbox will index those files aswell...
oldutch:
I am running under XP and don't seem to have a 'Recycled' folder within the iPod filesystem. I do have hidden and system files showing as I can see the Recycled folder on my C:\ drive and I can also see the iPod_Control folder in the iPod filesystem. I never deleted any music, only used Tag&Rename to modify the files directly on the iPod. As stated, both Tag&Rename and Winamp are reporting the new, modified genre from the music stored on the iPod filesystem.

Just checking now; you don't have them in your ipod control folder either? Itunes stores everything there under random file names.

Yea, that's been empty for a while actually. Been using Rockbox for about 6 months now, god I love it! I'm actually going through the painful process of cleaning/organizing the music collection which is what prompted this issue.
