iRiver doesn't play wma's???
« on: March 13, 2007, 12:06:46 PM »
Also, is there a converter than converts MP3's-WMA's, and WMA's-MP3's?
Because I really love using Rockbox, but it kind of sucks that I can't listen to all of my music.

So I guess my question is...did you do this on purpose?
Or is it working progress to make WMA's work on the iriver with rockbox downloaded.

~Nvm, didn't realise Microsoft didn't make iriver, some other company does, thanx for pointing that out.

1) iRiver is not Microsoft.
2) Windows Media Player can create MP3s.
3) Rockbox is not iRiver OR Microsoft. It runs on many non-iRiver players.
4) To paraphrase "It requires someone with a clue to port an WMA codec to Rockbox, and those who do have a clue don't use WMA"

Simply put: Rockbox doesn't support WMA. If you'd researched at all, you wouldn't noticed WMA not in the list. Rockbox MIGHT support WMA in the future, if someone does the work to do it, but the category "People who badly want WMA" does not overlap "People who can make WMA work in Rockbox" right now, it seems.

You shouldn't convert from WMA->MP3, you lose quality. You'll get much better results re-ripping your CDs as MP3.

How do I do that?

When I rip it just automatically makes WMA, is there a setting on Windows Media Player to make MP3's?
Never seen that.

If you have Windows Media Player 10 it should be an option, but I don't know where since I use neither Windows Media Player nor MP3 for my own ripping.

Ahh I found it, under tools then options, then rip music button, then it has a rip settings format for MP3.
Thanx a lot man!
Really appreciate it, you can lock if you want.

Wow, my thread attacted a lot of people lol.
