Make rockbox secondary firmware?

<< < (7/8) > >>

scharkalvin:
Well I'm going to have to dig into the ipod mini firmware anyway to build myself a version that supports use of a CF module instead of the disk drive.
While I'm reading source code maybe I'll take a look at the bootloader source.
I'm guessing I just need to look for where the hold switch is sampled and then invert things.  Might also be nice to post a message on the screen to let the user know to "throw hold switch now to boot rockbox".   Probably won't get to this until the weekend,
and I'm waiting for another CF card to upgrade my other mini anyway.

BTW, in the case of needing the alternate boot for use with the dock, how about if the bootloader only defaulted to Apple if the dock was sensed? (If that's possible).

That would be cool as well but in my case anyway just booting into Apple by default would be fine.

But looks like its never going to get official so guess i'll have to make it myself like u guys said in here, but can anybody tell where there's a tut on the internet so that i can learn how to do this?

And why is this necessary? If you boot AppleOS you'll need to *reset* the Ipod to go back to Rockbox. Turning off the player (as it's no actual power-down but a sleep mode) won't go back to Rockbox. Which makes it completely unneccessary to boot AppleOS as default -- once you're using AppleOS you explicitly need to reboot.

In my case, for whatever reason, when it's on the dock it occasionally shuts down and restarts resulting in it booting into Rockbox then starting a cycle of shutting down and turning on continuously.

With rockbox as default you have to reset the ipod too when its in AppleOS to go to rockbox, so what the difference? i just want AppleOS and when i want to watch a movie or play a game or if i have speakers connected but i want it to go louder then in the AppleOS i want to use rockbox and that when i shut it down (hold play) that when i start it it probably means that i want to use it normally and want AppleOS and not rockbox so it would be easyer not to have to put the hold switch on... And btw i tried the loader 2.5 from the ipodlinux team and it gave me problems with my music(it was dissapearing)
And scharkalvin it would be nice if you could do that since it wouldnt take much effort since you know how to do it  :)
