I've started a flyspry entry for this one http://www.rockbox.org/tracker/task/6896
It seems not to affect the e250 models and I can only vouch for the e250 and e260 series if anyone with any other models can either confirm or deny this bug exists on those models that would help.

I'll disassemble and scan in pictures of the e260 tomorrow if I have time so we can see if the ICs are very different from the e250s sandisk provided the rockbox team.

I can confirm that the E280 is having the problem, as mine is an E280

Ive had about the same problem once:

when loading the orginal firmware, vertical lines appeared from the top started to go down untill the bottom of the screen. The firmware never booted. Restarted the device by removing the battery (i didn't know then that it had a hardware shutdown fonction) and all was fine.

However I still see those lines on the top of the screen when i am booting the OF.

this is not the bug in question this happens to me almost daily a hard power off and it boots fine again.
I think the "vertical line booting up freeze up bug" (can't think of a better name) comes from moving the scroll wheel while trying to press |<< with my big chubby fingers

Correct, this is a horizontal line bug 2-3 lines at the top of the screen going all the way across.

It turns out all three of the scanners I own are crap and produce blurry pictures.  
So I broke out my web cam and took some snap shots of the ICs in my e260

Looks like it's a version 1.1 as well... there's another person on page 1 who had the problem and has a ver 1.1 board as well.

Daniel's kit that he got shows it's a ver 1.0 board. I'll open mine up at some point and verify that it's a 1.1 as well.

I'd like to see pics of a couple people who don't have the problem and check if the board is ver 1.0

I just opened mine up and it is a v1.1 as well.

at least one of the e250s we own are 1.0
that means the other one is 99.99% a ver. 1.0 ,they were bought at the same time.
These don't have the problems the e260 has.

Well with much tremble and fear I removed the first 4 screws and the serial numbers of my cousin's unit are:

BH0611NGF
e200B0611341142

I then removed the other 4 tiny metallic screws but was unable to separate the cover and I didn't want to brake something (remember this DAP is not mine).

Sorry that's all what I can do, hope it helps somehow. I upgraded to the current build but the line still gets displayed at the top.

If you did get the front cover off, the version number is at the bottem of the board below the wheel on the front side.
In big white letters i.e. "VER: 1.1 OSP"
If you do not feel comfortable opening any electrical device I suggest you DO NOT attempt it, but I would have never learned somuch if I had never made magic smoke from perfectly working devices.

Don't confuse the hardware version 1.0 vs 1.1 with the model e260, as the e260 exist in both 1.0 and 1.1 versions.

I have an e260 1.0. Without line problem.

I have a ver 1.1 sansa E250 player and it has the same problem,it shows lines  the first 2 row of pixels,but the second row is filled at the half,and when I boot up the original firmware it shows only less than half the first row,but the sansa still fine even it have rows of unused pixels,it just need more refinement,all are doing a great job,thanks for rockbox.

I have the same problem on my E260.

The only thing I can add is that when I play .mov in original firmware (after booting into it with rockbox bootloader) the screen "fixes" itself while the movie is playing. When the movie ends, the problem returns.

I thing that the video takes the whole screen and it unconsciously fixes that,and then it again shows the unused pixels,the thing is that is something unconscious,it might be the bootloader that takes that rows of pixels,so the problem as I think reside in the bootloader,the OF.bin file reamins intact,so is bootloader trouble.
