Does Ipod 5.5 sound better with rockbox?
(1/1)
hellokitty:
Hi,
in the moment I'm using an Iriver H120 but think about buying an Ipod Video due to the screen and 30 GB disc. I was just wondering if music sounds better using rockbox or the original firmware. I often heard Ipod wouldn't sound quite as good as Iriver. Does rockbox improve the sound quality for Ipod?
Thank you!
Deano:
As far as I understand it, there should be no difference to the sound quality between the original firmware and Rockbox on an iPod (using the same files anyway).
In comparison to the iRiver's sound, I have no idea how "good" it is. However, using the iPod seems to produce perfectly good results to my ears. I've never had an issue with its sound reproduction.

You might want to take a look at this thread, where I used RightMark Audio Analyzer to compare Rockbox to the original firmware:

On a related note, is the low db ticking issue with the 5g present in the 5.5g? has this issue been resolved?
