Hi,

This is my first time installing rockbox software. Being that my girlfriend is blind she benefits from the speech capability. We set it up yesturday, and everything worked great. However today the ipod is as good as a paperwait. I can't even get into disk mode. Can you guys help me with this.

Thanks

GodEater:
Make sure you give the iPod and good *long* recharge. At least two hours.

Then :

Turn hold switch to on, then off again.

Immediately hold down Menu and the centre button until it reboots. Don't let go of these buttons until that happens - it might take nearly a minute.

Once it starts rebooting, *then* hold down Play and the centre button to get into disk mode.

Thank You for the help,

Actually I though of trying this before I read your post. I feel real dumb. I had a fever so I was alittle out of it.

Basicly once that problem went away, we had more issues than we cared for. Right now the ipod is on its origanal apple firmware.

However, I guess the questions we have are.

1. How can I better make the speech part act more in real time, I read to docs and looked up the .talk files however how involved do I have to get with these, and what is the best way to set them up.

2. Also what is the best way to load music on to the ipod using rockbox, can she just use windows media player to sync or is it more involved.

3. And from any personal experiences what is the usability of the ipod video 30GB, I know your docs say one thing but how usable is it.

Thanks

Those are all my questions for now. Thanks

However you like, copy them over in explorer using drag and drop.  Put them anywhere on the harddisk.  If you want to use them in Apple OS as well, then you will need to use itunes, and because itunes is rubbish and changes the filenames and hides your music you will need to then use database in rockbbox to see your music.

The docs are accurate, the rockbox project is not in the habit of lying.  There are problems with iPods compared to other targets due to the closed hardware, but these are covered http://www.rockbox.org/twiki/bin/view/Main/IpodFAQ#Playback_is_glitchy_skips

The major (imo) issue with the iPod port right now is the reduced battery life.
