Good codecs for a video player on rockbox?

(1/1)

Now that the Sansa has sound I feel more of a reason to help in rockbox development.

I have been messing around with the mpegplayer and it's sluggish to say the least with any good quality video.

I was curious about what would be some good codecs to develop a player for.
The tradeoff of course being quality/size and of cpu usage of the codec.

How about mp4?

Its one of the easiest to convert to

Your best bet would be to work on optimising the existing codec. Porting another one doesn't really make sense.

It may be easier to convert to - but it's computationally more expensive to decode it - which means the playback would be *worse* on your handheld player - not better.
