iPod Repair and Upgrades
« on: March 11, 2007, 01:34:42 PM »
I have recently moved my iPod repair service which I've had going around my town and school online. I have worked with and will work on any iPods of all types (except Shuffles) , and am very experienced in hardware repair.

If anyone has an iPod (any generation except Shuffles), post your problem and I will let you know if I can repair it. If I can, I will give you a mailing address and instructions on how to ship it. If I cannot fix it, I will mail it back free of charge. If I can, I will give you a bill and you can choose whether or not you want to have your iPod repaired. If your iPod is beyond repair, I will offer you a price which I will buy it from you at.

I can fix any problem, whether it is software or hardware. This includes:

-Sad-faced iPods
-iPods that don't turn on
-Non-responsive click wheels
-iPods that don't mount
-Cracked Screens
-And pretty much everything else

I also can do battery and hard drive upgrades
-Your battery life will increase by 20%
-I can give you a bigger hard drive
-If the faceplate or back plate is scratched or scuffed, I can replace it

I can back up the content of your iPods as well, for up to 1 year

Before you do anything, check your warranty. If you still have an active warranty, bring your iPod to the Apple Store.

In the event that I will be able to fix your iPod, you will be charged a set fee, plus however much the parts cost.

If you already have the parts, then I can install them for you, eliminating the price of parts

If your warranty is expired and you do not want to pay a ton of money to have your iPod fixed, then post here. My prices will beat any service out there.

There will soon be a wiki page, and then a separate website, for this, but until then, we are going to have to work with forum posts. When the wiki/website is up, it will have much more comprehensive instructions and terms.

You can private message me if you have any questions, and I will get back to you ASAP

If your "wiki page" is on our wiki, don't bother.  I would delete it as soon as I see it.  Our wiki is not just somewhere you can post a page not relating to Rockbox because you do not have a site for it yet.

As for the actual post in the forums, I will leave it up to Llorean to decide whether it is spam, or something valuable.

How would you sell the back plates, they each have a unique serial on them...

Does that fact impact their functionality?

I personally think that offering a repair service isn't really a bad thing. First and foremost we all known that these players do suffer wear with time and have a tendency to fail, and not all users are able to (or feel able to) repair their own players.

Although it's not strictly Rockbox related in the most direct sense, it's relevant in the "Continuing my ability to use Rockbox" sense. My vote is in favour of allowing a wiki page of some sort, but it should be discussed fully since it's hardly my decision. :)

I had suggested the wiki page to him, though I think his post doesn't clarify the context in which I'd suggested the page.

Here goes:

A wiki page that lists places users may get their players repaired. Not one specifically for him, but rather a table or listing of repair services, the types of repairs they'll do, the players they'll work on, and general rates.

He would likely be the only entry at first, but users could add websites they stumble across, perhaps even Apple's own service (or iRivers, or Cowon's), etc, so that someone with a broken player who feels their own skills are insufficient can look at this table, see what is likely to cost them least in shipping and repair fees and/or feels the most reliable, and contact the service of their choice.

Ah...  I see.  Thanks for explaining it in a bit more detail.  As long as it is a page like that, instead of one expressly for his services, all is well.  :)

Sorry for jumping the gun a bit, but at first, it just sounded like spam mail in the forum.

sorry scorche and Llorean, I misunderstood/didn't explain clearly in my post Llorean's message about the wiki page.

on the topic of the backplate, the fact that the serial number is different is irrelevant to its functionality. The serial number can either be removed from the backplate(I think) or you can just know that the number on the backplate isn't really your serial number.

It can still be replaced, just like every other part of the ipod.
Also, if the harddrive is replaced with one that has more capacity, the backplate will be changed to a larger one, seeing as there will be a bigger hard drive
