Why is the ipod4g UI so slow with the most recent dailies? (SOLVED)
Shovas:
I tried the current again. It plays songs where a few days ago it didn't. But we're back to that buffer-underrun issue where it stops playing the song and has to load more of the song in (I think that's what it's doing).
Shovas:
Daily for 20070314 is the same.
I've been using the daily from 20070310 to get back to a version which does not exhibit these issues.
Update: I turned on the equalizer in both the current and 20070310 daily and the daily started acting the same as the current (pausing in the middle of songs). I disabled the equalizer and I haven't heard a pause yet. Not sure what that means. I'm getting the impression I'm running out of memory and that it's not necessarily the codec not having enough CPU to decode fast enough, although I could be wrong.
nls:
The equalizer does use a fair bit of cpu and when the codec can't keep up you will hear pauses or skips, turning the equalizer off or only using a few bands uses less cpu giving the codec more headroom, other things that use a bit of cpu are peakmeters in the wps and crossfeed, try tuning these off if you have them enabled.
Shovas:
Thanks for the heads up.
Do you happen to know if it's likely the ipod4g is reaching it's cpu limit and that likely us users won't be able to enable the fancier features? Or is there room for optimizing the algorithms all over the place to get all the features working at once?
