Hi, need help
« on: March 10, 2007, 04:16:19 PM »
Hello.
I have Sansa E250.
I'm very interest in installing Rockbox to my Sansa.
First, I want to know what are the risks and what can happen in the worse situation?

And I will be happy if someone will explain me how to install the rockbox.
I saw in the Wiki and the Manual that I have to the download the .zip file and extract the files into the root directory of the player.
I did it but it didn't worked.
I red that there is a Boot-Loader I should download and some more files, where can i find the files?
And what exactly should I do to make it work?

tnx

modify: ok, I downloaded the files from here : http://www.rockbox.org/twiki/bin/view/Main/SansaE200Install
under the "step-by-step" title.
I put them in the root folder and now when I try to start my the Sansa its write:
Rockbox boot loader
Version: 20061221-1918
Sandisk Sansa e200

No partition found
partition 0: 0x06 1896 MB
loading Rockbox...

and its just stuck...what should i do?

The "root" directory is the TOP LEVEL folder of your Sansa. ie. F:\ or E200 ( D: )\

Have you followed ALL the instructions on the wiki?
Did you actually pay attention to the warnings at the top of the installation instructions?

yes I did.
Thats exactly what I did:

-I downloaded the .zip file.
-I opened the file with Winrar and extract the files to f:\ drive.
-I downloaded the .mi4 file and put it in the f:\ drive too.
-I safely remove the usb and disconnected it from the USB connector.

The sansa restart itself and than a white screen with the "no partition found..." stuff.

Did i do something wrong?
What should i do?

Is your Sansa FAT32 formatted? Not just FAT, it has to be FAT32. (And you need to check the main partition, NOT the recovery partition).

Try replacing your bootloader with this one: http://download.rockbox.org/bootloader/sandisk-sansa/e200/

Firstly, it's not a good idea to do things you aren't explicitly told to do.

Secondly, you can only boot into the original firmware if you set up the dual boot as per the instructions http://www.rockbox.org/twiki/bin/view/Main/SansaE200Install

If you did that, holding Right while it turns on should take you into the original firmware. Right is the |<< button.

Why did you ignore the warning:
Quote
If you are unsure or feel uncertain of any detail or step in this process, stop now and bail out.

You should've asked for help before you tried to do the install if you didn't understand it.

If you've installed Rockbox without following the dual boot steps, you have to use recovery mode, as described here: http://www.rockbox.org/twiki/bin/view/Main/SansaE200TroubleShooting

You need to copy an original, non-Rockbox PP5022.MI4 to it.

Please, don't ignore warnings, and don't try random things. The http://www.rockbox.org/twiki/bin/view/Main/SansaE200Install page HAS a step by step set of instructions for setting up the dual boot, and you should've asked when you got to the instruction you didn't understand.

First off, please follow our forum rules. We require the use of real words, nothing like "u" please.

You need to go into the command prompt, into the folder where you're put mi4code.exe and the MI4 file (they should be in the same folder), and type that command in the command prompt.
