Pause when locked?
« on: March 10, 2007, 01:38:59 PM »
I just heard about Rockbox, and have dug through some of the docs. I'm currently using a Motorola M25, of which one of the best features (besides bookmarks) is the option of being able to pause or change volume when locked. Do any of the platforms of Rockbox do this in any way? It's great to be able to just reach down and pause by hitting any control, without fumbling for the lock slide while the phone is ringing or someone is talking at you.

Most of the hold switches on the devices disable the buttons through hardware and not software, so on some targets, this would be impossible.  The thing is, this behavior negates the entire idea of having a "lock" switch on a device; that being to prevent ANY action.

My old Rio S50 and Nitrus had this functionality.  It was quite useful and configurable.  Mostly I used it to just turn the volume up or down.  It's one of those things that are nice to have.  The times I really miss this feature is when listening with in-ear buds and someone comes up and starts talking to you.  With it locked, you can just hit mute.

On the Gigabeats, you just slide a button and it's unlocked or locked.  (Unless you're using the remote and the Gigabeat is some distance away.)  So it's not terribly hard to unlock.

OFF Topic but..... I hear you mention a remote for Gigabeats? What models are these available for? I have an X30 so presumably something newer than that?

The F40 and F60 came with a (non-lcd) remote, I don't know about the X series though.
