Bubbles speed problem
« on: March 10, 2007, 02:25:41 AM »
Hi,
Sometimes Bubbles runs reasonably slowly, and other times is runs at faster (and much more preferable) speed. Does anyone know why?

Are you playing music while this happens?

What build version are you using at the moment, and what player?

I bet this happens while music is playing because I've seen that too in this situation (official build on an X5).

What you see is caused by the processor being boosted or not. Rockbox slows the clock of the processor down when it doesn't need so much processing power - to save battery. If it needs faster processing (for example to encode music realtime) the cpu will be set to a higher speed ("boosted") and this also allows faster updating of the screen. When, why and for how long it is boosted depends on the codec and the bitrate of the music.

I think (and heard - if I remember correctly) that the bubbles plugin could be optimised so that the user doesn't notice.
