1st gen Ipod Nano - freezes on splash screen

Llorean:
You should reboot into disk mode (Hold Menu+Select to force a reboot, and then immediately hold Select+Play).

Once in disk mode, attach it to a computer and use a utility like scandisk to check your filesystem for errors. Ejecting improperly can result in file system damage, which is the most likely cause in this situation.

gh0st:
thanks for your help. i will give it a try and let you know the results.

gh0st:
defragment was unnecessary. im not positive what tool i can use to scan my ipod drive. none of the standard windows tools seem to work.

Llorean:
The "Error Checking" one doesn't work? How doesn't it work?

gh0st:
im not sure which specific application you are referring to. disk management said the partition was healthy. i dont have (to my knowledge) the scandisk tool on the xp os.
