organizing
« on: March 08, 2007, 05:33:46 PM »
I have an 5g iPod Video 30gb and I just installed Rock Box. My problem is organzing all of my music like it used to be organized. I've read through the manual and I can't understand how to get my music files organized by their ID3 tags (By Artists, Album, etc). Can anyone explain to me how I can do this?

I've made the root playlist and it contains all of my music, I just want it organized. Help would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

:)

Look for Database in the manual.

I initialized the Data Base, but the instructions state that I need to go back to the Main Menu and select Data Base. Data Base isn't there.

I did.

I go to the main menu which is...

Quote
Recent Bookmarks
Sound Settings
Manage Settings
Browse Themes
Recording
Playlist Options
Browse Plugins
Info

I click General Settings and it takes me to...

Quote
Playback
File View
Display
System
Bookmarking
Language
Voice

I click File View, then it goes...

Quote
Sort Case Sensitive
Sort Directories
Sort Files
Show Files
Follow Playlist
Show Icons
Show Path
Database

Then I click Database and it says...

Quote
Load to Ram
Auto Update
Initialize Now
Update Now
Gather Runtime Data (experimental)
Export Modifications
Import Modifications

Then I click Initialize Now, and it says Updating In Background
Then I click Update Now, it says Updating In Background

Then I go back to the main menu (Recent Bookmarks, Sound Settings, General Settings, etc) and the option Database isn't there like the manual says it should be.

You're using an older build.

All instructions in the manual assume that you're using a version the same age as that copy of the manual. Please don't complain that an option isn't there if you're using an out of date build. Some times things get moved around, and you're using a version of Rockbox that predates the Root Menu.

... and the manual needs adjusting for that too (which is in the works, but not finished yet). Just use your imagination, things usually don't change that much to get impossible finding them with a bit of investigation.
