Question about formatting iPod

Once I discovered Rockbox about six months ago, it finally allowed me to have my music collection in OGG Vorbis... which made me very happy.  :)

Anyway, I no longer use the Apple firmware with my iPod, and I was wondering if it's possible to remove it.  I planned on formatting my iPod and reinstalling Rockbox (it needs it), and I was wondering if Rockbox will install on a freshly formatted iPod.  Does formatting remove the Apple firmware?

No - formatting it will not remove the Apple firmware.

I really wouldn't bother removing it entirely, even if you work out how - it's not worth it.

Yeah, I cleared this matter up in the IRC channel.  You're right, formatting won't erase the firmware, unless you format the firmware partition.

What you've written there isn't entirely correct, and I'm not sure we want all and sundry doing this to their iPods - it'll likely cause a complete support nightmare.

Would you be so good as remove the details from you post ?
