You can't show hidden files on the Mac? That's kind of crazy... boy, I'm glad I use Linux. :)
Anyway, I suggest you take the time to learn a few of the basic UNIX commands. Once you get a hang of the command line, I think you'll learn to see how it can make certain tasks much more simple.

Mike, learn the mv command and get used to terminal.
It can be very useful, for example, if you want to modify a file in the rockbox directory.
Its easier to type "open .rockbox" then to use oynx to show hidden directories.
Also rsync is the greatest way I found to transfer my music to my ipod.
Noah, you can, its just a pain. I use OS X quite a bit, and I still find it easy to just think of it as a pretty BSD with a horrible file manager.
