Is it possible to hide certain files on rockbox? (e.g. the .rockbox bootloader that shows up in you "files" section)?

I moved this because it was not related to the topic in which you originally posted it.

The different File View settings explained in the manual show/hide different file and folder types depending on the selection.

Why have you asked this question twice in two threads ?

He didn't, I was in the process of splitting it when you posted... :P

You might want to move your original reply :D

what you have to do is unhide the folder you want and hide the folder or file you dont want using windows explorer. then when you go to rockbox hold the back button and where it says at the bottom pick supported and only the files you want will be visible.

sorry i wish i could word it better, but i dont have my h10 availible right now to list it step by step, its plugged in right now :)

That would be fine but I don't really want to use windows as this would be a pain if everytime I loaded to OF I had to boot windows to unhide the folder. Seems easier to just do it with linux but I just don't know how!

Is that really correct? I understood (but am totally willing to be proved wrong) that the File View settings were specific to rockbox (based on the file name and/or extension) and did not take into account the FAT32 status flag(s).

Rockbox will not show files marked as 'hidden' unless it's in the All Files file view mode. Supported or any of the others will leave 'hidden' files/folders invisible to the user in the filetree.

Or at least it should. If it doesn't, that's the sort of thing that would make a good entry in the bug tracker, because I'm pretty sure it used to. ;)

Unless the browser is set to show "all" then hidden folders and files will not be shown! That is why I want to be able to change that on Linux.

well what i tried to explain ( unfortunately im not good at explaining and i could be wrong) is that in order to hide the 'rockbox.ipod' file which is not set as hidden by default, you would have to cange its visibility on a PC otherwise rockbox will always show it. ( i think based on my personal expeierence with a windows pc)

EDIT: llorean gives a better solution :)

Firstly, the bootloader is not visible. I assume you mean the rockbox.ipod file, which is the main binary, NOT the bootloader.

Secondly, if you switch to "Music" mode for visible files you won't see it. If you take advantage of the fact that the bootloader can load rockbox.ipod from inside .rockbox and put it in there instead, you won't see it.

There are many options.
