questions regarding musepack with ID3v1 and car-kit support
(1/1)
Buschel:
Hello all,
first many thanks for the rockbox firmware :) Now I am able to play back all my musepack files on a mobile device -- I've waited long time...
After a few days of playing around with the software I've got some questions about
rockbox on a 30GB-iPOD Video.
1st: reading/showing ID3v1 /v1.1 tags attached to musepack (.mpc) files
rockbox does not show ID3v1 or v1.1-content of .mpc-files on my iPOD. With .mp3-files the tags work fine. I checked with both the database (only all APEv2-tagged files visible) and the WPS context menu (show ID3 info). I created the tag database 2 times, I also use "load database to RAM" and used "update database" several times.
Is there some configuration I forgot?
2nd: support remote car-kit
I activated the "remote car-kit" feautre in the settings menu and checked the iPOD with a "Becker remote kid" connected to a navigation system of the "Becker Cascade" and "Becker Indianapolis Pro" family. These ones use the serial interface of the iPOD for command and control. When connecting the iPOD to the navigation systems there is no effect.
Does rockbox's "remte car-kit" feature use different interface? If so, shall I send a feature request then?
thanks for your time and support,
Buschel

ID3 tags do not belong on Musepack file, only APE tags. So no, there is no configuration you forgot, those tags are ignored because they shouldn't be there. What are you using to tag your Musepack files? If what ever you are using is adding ID3 tags to your files, it's either misconfigured or buggy.

Rockbox can't use the serial port on the iPods at this time other than for audio line-out and the power pin, IIRC. This means most accessories won't work. Take a look at these two wiki pages:

Hmm, why do musepack-files require APEv2? I am using musepack since 2000, APEv2 was added later in 2001/2002. So, these files were tagged with some of the very first Winamp-plugins for musepack-playback. In fact, ID3 can added to musepack like to any other binary audiofile. Isn't it possible allow ID3-tags (as well as APE-tags) for all audio formats?
Thanks for info and the link about remotes.
Buschel
Buschel:
Ok, after discussion in IRC I found a good tool to re-tag all my files. Done now, hopefully all files are still valid now ;)

I'm glad it all worked out well. :D I looked around a bit and it seems that ID3v1 tags actually should be allowed, but APEv2 tags are recommended and have priority. ID3v2 should not be allowed at all. So maybe ID3v1 support should be added, even though it's a much more restrictive format.
