The MpegPlayer plugin is work in progress and not everything is working as expected. See the PluginMpegplayer wiki page -- the manual hasn't been updated yet.

Seriously, it'll get finished one day, but don't EXPECT it any specific time. Nobody is working on it right now, for example, at all. It's not a focus of the project.

Well, the main focus is audio playback functionality, and fixing bugs and performance issues in that.
Then comes things relating to that, such as recording, and user interface.

That's as a project as a whole.

But what gets worked on is what interests individual developers. ANYONE is welcome to work on the MPEGPlayer, it is open source and all.
