I/O error on Gigabeat F20, latest build (1/3/07)
« on: March 02, 2007, 08:10:38 AM »
Hi, I posted this over on the mygigabeat.com forum but was recommended to try here. Not sure how easy this will be to fix because there's not a lot of information to go on. Everything has been working fine except that occasionally windows gives me an I/O error (no more info than that) when trying to transfer files to/from the gigabeat. Unplugging, reseting etc doesn't fix it - when you plug it back in you get the same error, and can't even view the contents of it. Strangely it will let me format the drive, which fixes it, but I've had it happen three times now. It occurred with the latest version and also the previous one, and I've not added any patches or anything. I have it connected directly with the USB cable and power to win xp.

Hope someone has a bright idea! Thanks

Could be a bad hard drive.  Have you tried CHKDSK on it?

Checked the disc, doesn't think anything is wrong. It hasn't happened in a few days now so it doesn't seem reproduceable. I think this will probably remain a mystery unless it starts doing it again, which now it undoubtedly will!
