Flyspray -> is Jabber an IM ?
« on: March 02, 2007, 04:29:29 AM »
1) why should i make a new acount for flyspray rather than for forum ? Can't them use shared id/password database/coockies ?

2) just tried to register. 15 minutes and no confirmation code yet, while Flyspray claims it is already sent.
I see how e-mail message can take 2-3 days before it arrives.
But for instant messenger like jabber - it is way too much :-)
And how does flyspray tells the code was sent, when i don’t see it ? In e-mail flyspray shure can't sat was the message delivered or not, but in jabber it can!

No. They are completely different pieces of software. The forums even run on a different server.

It can of couse tell if the mail has been delivered to the next mail server. If it has done that it has sent the mail. If some other mail server during the transport delays it you can't check. Btw, have you also checked your spam filter?

Flyspray is open source, so feel free to look at the sources to gather information upon how it decides if a mail has been sent. How do I need to understand the subject of this post? Jabber is an instant messanger, and from your post it looks like you are aware of this. So, what do you want to ask with that subject? Jabber hasn't been enabled on the Rockbox FS installation. Feel free to ask the site admins about enabling it. It is already a feature request in FS itself ...

I have none in my jabber client and AFAIK nothing like that is on the server too.

> So, what do you want to ask with that subject?
Flyspray reported it succesfully sent me confirmation code and after 15 minutes elapsed it had not been in my jabber client yet. 15 minutes is too much for IM. Just that.

If jabber is disabled then
 1) jabber notification is not to be shown as an option
 2) FS should not tell that message is sent succesfully, while in reality it did not even tried !

Currently it is very misleading !

PS:

>They are completely different pieces of software.
there is a lot of completely different pieces of software that still can interoperate, though it would be harder to make the proper settings.

However this was not the main point of message.

> The forums even run on a different server.
IMHO this is not relevant at all.

Yes, but sadly the software the Rockbox sites use doesn't.

Either the developers can spend their time trying to fix forum/bug tracker/wiki software, or they can develop Rockbox.  I know what I prefer doing.
