How many settings have you changed?
« on: March 01, 2007, 07:43:01 PM »
Well, I'm a bit curious about how many settings of the ~180 aviablae you currently have chaned from default.

To find out open your /.rockbox/config.cfg file in either of the text editor/view plugins or on your computer.

Clarification:  I have mutliple config files, mostly because I'm too lazy to use the onscreen keyboard so whenever I make a change and save the config, I let it save "config01.cfg", "config02.cfg" etc.  Do you want the latest one of *those* or is config.cfg "special"?

I ask because config.cfg is not only the smallest (30 lines as opposed to 163 in config09.cfg, my latest) but also the most recent, implying it is in fact "special"

Can people with unofficial builds apply? They may have more settings available.

config.cfg is a special one.. only settings which are different from default are saved. This is also the one which rockbox reads on startup.

Yeah why not.. I dont think any unsuppporetd patches add more than 1 or 2 settings, so wont affect the results that much

the main thing i change first is the crossfadding. then ill chage the wps screen and thats usually it till i find something else that needs changing. also i have 2 config files that are
newest.cfg --sort files by newest
alpha.cfg   --sort files by alaphabet

most of the time when im bored i go threw every setting and see what new settings there are and what i can change.

If most people have the same settings, perhaps the defaults could be changed..

Maybe someone would like to setup a website where users could upload their main config.cfg files (along with a drop-down list indicating which player they are using).  Lots of interesting stats could be produced...

Yeah, I'm still leading the crowd with 67 settings (65 official settings)! ;D
I don't know why it is so much, I just use the same config that I have for about a year now and always extended from there.
When I look at a few settings in there now, I don't really know why they are different from the defaults  ::)

17 Here. Anyone else think "Fade on stop/pause" should be disabled by default? I never understood why something that made the UI feel unresponsive was the default case.

Yes, me! *raises both hands*

I have 42 changed settings (including wps, fmr-files) - but two settings are really important to me: that "fade on stop/pause" and the default volume is too loud for me. I set it at -35dB in a loud surrounding, with a maximum of -32dB maybe... and this is even though I don't use in-ear-plugs, just usual earphones (i.e. quite "open").

Whenever I "start from scratch" which I do on occasion for no good reason whatsoever, I *always" change several settings right away. The ones I think are possibly universal are (relevant lines copied from my file):

backlight fade in: off
volume fade: off
follow playlist: on
autocreate bookmarks: on
autoload bookmarks: ask
use most-recent-bookmarks: unique only

I agree, too.  I'd also vote for repeat mode being set off by default, but that may just be me.

repeat mode and dircache are my pet hates with the defaults... so both are set in my fixed.cfg so no more a problem.

anyway, I'm a bit disapointed that 260 views and only 30 ppl actually voted. :(

making a seperate page to track user's settings would be fun, but unless we decide before hand that some setting defaults would be changed to reflect that there isnt much point.

Yotto: where is the volume fade setting? ive never seen it.. unless thats the fade on stop setting?
