Re: Zune (Hypocrites)
angry_open_source_user:
I guess I was right, you guys ARE a bunch of hipocrytes...just for that, I'll post it again. ;D
Okay, here's the thing
I'm sick and tired of this thread... Here's why...
Most of you ppl are more hypocritical than PETA...so Rockbox is against piracy (I assume because it's illegal), but you're all for installing third party software on almost every hardware out there (which is also, by nature, illegal...not to mention in violation of every product agreement out there.) Stop complaining. It's not like the artists get half of the money you pay for their music anyways...(don't believe me? Look up the statistics...NO, NOT the ones from the RIAA, we already know they lie about everything...I mean the REAL statistics, if you can find them.)
And you admins and moderators are lame...I swear to everything Holy that if one of you deletes this post/my account, you are a Grade A+ hypocrite. You guys are the biggest flamers on this board. All that happened was someone asked a simple question to the effect of "will the rockbox be ported to the zune..." and before ANYONE else could reply, one of you moderators had to jump down his throat with rules JUST to make yourselves feel important...He was just asking what everyone else was thinking. Believe it or not, the open source community IS based on a supply and demand basis (GASP!). Most of the stuff in the open source community came about because someone either requested it, or got bored one day and made it themselves. Not everyone knows how to do this stuff, so don't get mad at them just because they're asking for information. And in case you aren't aware, this DOES apply to you, because since you make open source software, you are part of the open source community...Just wanted to make that clear since it's obvious some of you admins and mods can't even SPELL GED...
""First, don't ask Rockbox developers when they are going to port Rockbox to your platform. Ports are made by people who want to port, they are not done on request."" Not applicable, much? HONESTLY, Bagder...The Zune and the iPods are probably the MAIN focus right now of people who want Rockbox...they are BIG players in the portable media player scene. I'm just surprised people weren't asking this the day the Zune hit the marketplace...(no pun intended) And I HOPE you weren't trying to spell Badger when you chose your name...you kinda screwed up if you were...
I swear you people need to get a life.
Figures...you WOULD delete it...

I don't know any country where installing a third party software on a piece of hardware is illegal. And what do you mean "by nature"?

That might be correct, but that merely means that you void your warranty. Entirely up to the user and perfectly legal.

Exactly. The key word here is "supply". The supply of unpaid man hours and developers that own a Zune is scarce.

So you think that I should shell out money to buy a Zune, then spend hundreds of unpaid hours on evenings and weekends to port Rockbox to it, just because you demand so?
I think not. See my comment about "supply" above.

If I had a life, Rockbox wouldn't exist today. :-)

Not anymore... :-)

They are possibly the biggest and mosted talk-about players, yes. That only makes it even more remarkable that there are so very few users and hackers that are willing to work on a Rockbox port for them.
And yes, that includes you. I don't understand why you point fingers on others, as you yourself is as much a potential developer here as any other random person. That's kind of the spirit of open source in general, and certainly is how the Rockbox project works. We are all volunteers working on spare time.
There are some 200 people that have done good contributions to this project over the years and lots of people keep spending lots of time and effort to improve Rockbox. I don't know who you are, but I get the feeling that you're just another whiner who doesn't ever contribute anything "real" to open source projects.

I did misspell it. And when I discovered my mistake I kept the nick and I've used it since about 1986. How exactly is this relevant to hacking on Zune?
riksweeney:
The Zune's a major DAP? Where can I buy one in Europe?
Farpenoodle:
Wow... you are... nothing short of retarded.
Open source development has never been based on anything other than the developers whims. At no point has open source ever catered directly to users. Â (And if so that's because that's what the developer wants.) There's simply not much in the way of incentive to do so.
You are not paying these guys. They are under no obligation to do what YOU want.
If you want to see a port to the Zune, either do it yourself or send them a Zune and PRAY that they have the time and interest to do it.
