Doom- Play/down key not working(ipod 5.5G)

I have tried both the stock version of doom and doom with the strafe patch and the play button fails to work in either. No matter what I map to the play key it simply doesn't respond. The button works fine in rockbox. Am i missing something?

Same for me.  It only functions as a shoot key, to traverse through the menu you need to use the up key..?

Twilight in Zero:
Weird... My setup is as follows:

Menu - Up
Rewind - Turn left
FFwd - Turn right
Play - Switch weapons
Select - Shoot

I have to navigate through its menus by wrapping around, going off of the top of the menu.

Even mapped as shoot the key does nothing. It leaves me with one less key than i actually need to play the game.
