Reformatting
« on: February 26, 2007, 03:45:40 PM »
My iPod is having "issues" and needs to be wiped anyhow, so I figured this was a good time to move to Rockbox.

My question is this:  How can I do a reformat prior to installing Rockbox? I'd rather not upgrade to another invasive version of iTunes just to reformat. Can it just be done with a format command within Windows, or is there some special procedure I need to go through?

But remember that Windows cannot format FAT32 for large drives.  If you have a drive that is 40 GB or greater, you'll need to use Swiss Knife or some similar tool.

It's a 20 Gig iPod, so hopefully the FAT limit is not the issue, but Windows format failed and left the iPod unusable. I did a restore with iTunes, and then started over, which ultimately led me to success more or less, but I'll save the current issues for a different thread.
