Issue Playing MP3's from ESPN Radio on IpOd
wesderby:
Thanks for the replies...I did try re-encoding at 64KBPS with Winamp's new Transcoder plug-in, and that seemed to make no difference. I'll try some different things, and I'll see if these free podcasts are any better quality.
The link provided for the podcasts is slightly different from the "Insider" stuff...The podcasts are best-ofs and other content, whereas with the membership I have, you get the shows in their entirety without commercials. I'll play around with some different bitrates and see if I can get somewhere tonight when I get home.
Llorean:
You'll note that none of us suggested upping the bitrate, just the sample rate. There is an important difference.

Try turning off dithering. That should avoid the problem until the bug can be fixed.

Bug should be fixed as of the 27 Feb 19:14 build...if I get errors, the one after that. ;D

Thanks for all the replies...I'll try downloading the latest version of the firmware tonight.
I did take the suggestions about changing the sample rate...When I changed the sample rate to 44 or 48 kHz but left it in mono, it still sounded awful...When I changed the sample rate but changed my option to stereo, it was definitely more listenable...Still sounded like a worn-out cassette tape, but I think that's simply because of the low bitrate ESPN uses to encode their files. So, the changing the sampling rate and changing it to stereo from mono worked.
Thanks again...And I'll be checking out the latest version tonight or over the weekend.
